Obituary for Zora Hill

Zora Mae (Copeland) Hill was born on March 14, 1936, in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Boyd and Madgie Copeland, in Huntsville, Alabama. She passed away peacefully in her sleep, going home to our heavenly father, on Tuesday, May 25, 2021.

She was united in marriage to William Johnson Hill on October 24, 1955. They were married for 50 years, and were blessed with four children.

Zora was a devoted wife and mother who took great pride in the support of her four sons and husband. She was a little league mom for her husband’s baseball teams, The 51st Twins. She was employed by the Chattanooga Public School System, in the cafeteria, doing meal prep.

Zora joined Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church in 1956, under the leadership of the late Reverend Samuel R. Spence. She served on the Senior Usher board. Although Zora was not actively involved in the various organizations of the church prior to her passing, she was still spiritually supportive.

Zora was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Hill; son, Charles Hill; sister, Earline Readus ( who was like a mother); brother-in-law, Alexander Hill (Rat); grandson, Tremaine Hill; sisters, Barbara Frye, Ann Strickland, and Annette Copeland; brothers, Edward Geter, Harvey Lee, and Horace Copeland.

Survivors include sons Daryl (Kimberly) Hill, Ron (Kristy) Hill, both of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Kevin (Pamela) Hill, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren, Tinika (Levar) Borkman, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Giyonna Hill, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Travon Hill, of Brunswick, Georgia, Darren Bowles, of Nashville, Tennessee, Terrance (Cheree) Hill of Acworth, Georgia, Karlyn Hill, of Melbourne, Florida, LaCondra Mason, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, DeMario (Alyson) Hill, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Kavan Hill and Devon Hil, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; sister, Willie Hill, brothers, Boyd Copeland, Jr., and Alonzo Copeland; nieces, Frances Merriweather, Johnny (Theodore) Herndon, Linda (Carlton) Richardson, Sherry (Ronald) Williams, Lana (Willie) Jones, Jerasha (Felando) King, sister-in-law, Viola Hill, a host of nieces and nephews; a special friend, Carolyn Clay.

Public viewing will be held 2:00 PM-6:00 PM, Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, June 2, 2021.

Interment: Chattanooga National Cemetery.
