Obituary for William Lewis Morris
William Lewis Morris whom we all called “Willie Boy” was taken too soon. He was born on May 21, 1958, in Chattanooga, TN to Genett Morris and James Hornton. William was a protector of his siblings and a momma’s boy who just would melt your heart because he had such a caring, loving, and big heart toward anyone he met.
Now “Willie Boy” was well-known for all of his achievements, especially when it came to sports. He could have gone pro because he was talented and exceled athletically in basketball, football, and baseball. His favorite sport however, was baseball.
He was an amazing coach who would tell others to: “Fight for what you want in life”, don’t quit, go for your dreams.
This Tennessee Vols’ admirer and Raiders’ fan was well versed when it came to sports. He worked for CADAS many years, being a strong advocate for others in Recovery.
Whether we remember William from the past as a little boy who played sports, the teenager or the man who enjoyed his cars or got on our nerves in a fun-loving way, he will never be forgotten. He loved spending time with his family, best friend/ brother, Keith Blackmon, special friend, Darla, eating with his niece, Gwenzella’s cooking and thinking “London Boy”, the yorkie, was his son, as though he was human.
“Willie Boy” could eat and some of his favorite foods were fried chicken, popcorn, and pinto beans. When he was little his mother told the story of how she would place them in the refrigerator, and he would eat them cold. The evidence left behind was his fingerprints.
William was all about being himself and making a difference in the lives of others. That is what made him so special and dear. How do we say goodbye to someone who had a fulfilling life journey? By knowing we have moments shared with him held so preciously within our hearts.
Until we see him again, hold on to all the fond moments shared with “Willie Boy”. We love and miss you our beloved William! Say hello to our mother, sister and others in the family who have gone on before you.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Genett Morris and James Hornton; sister, Joyce Lovelace.
William is survived by his brother, Robert (Angel) Morris of Cincinnati, OH; sisters, Gwendolyn Chandler and Vanessa (Terrance) Walker of Chattanooga, TN; nieces, LaToya (Anthony) Broome and Gwenzella Chandler of Chattanooga, TN, Lisa (Derrick) Grant of Cincinnati, OH; nephews, LaDarius Peck of Chattanooga, TN and Robert (Anisha) Morris, Jr. of Cincinnati, OH; special niece, Shalon Dozier of Chattanooga, TN; a host of other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will begin at 3:00 pm on Friday, September 30, 2022 in the chapel.
