Obituary for William Kenneth Medley

William Kenneth Medley, 73, of Chattanooga, TN departed this life on Monday, July 25, 2022 in Atlanta, GA.

William, affectionately called Kenny by many family members, was born on September 26, 1948 in Clarksville, TN to the late Herbert E. Medley and Pearl Collins Medley.

Kenny was preceded in death by his brothers Will Henry Medley, Frank Medley (Gladys), Herbert Medley Jr., Charles Medley (Catherine), and Vincent Medley (Norma), and sisters Dorothy Mae Medley Parham (Charlie), Robbie Medley Meriwether (John), Alyce Pearl Medley Joyner (Ralph), Nancy Medley Reeves (Julian), and Georgia Ann Medley Caldwell (Sam).

After graduating high school, William enlisted in the United States Army. He did a tour in Vietnam and was wounded in combat. For his service, William received the Purple Heart along with many meritorious awards. In 1968, he retired with an honorable discharge as a Disabled Veteran.

William later moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he met and married Barbara C. Medley. In June 2000, they relocated to Chattanooga, TN. Together, they spent almost 30 years of marriage.

William continued his service as a member of the American Legion Post 51, Veteran of Foreign Wars, 40 & 8 Voiture 217 Veteran Organization, 101st Airborne Division Association, NAACP, and many other organizations supporting the community.

As a lifetime member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA, William enjoyed attending church events and was a proud member of the Brotherhood Ministry. In addition, he enjoyed photography, videography, and working with computers.

William strived to set the standard for excellence as a life-long learner. He worked in construction where he helped to build two Marta stations, received a Technical Certification in Computer Science, and studied Sound Engineering.

He is survived by his daughters, Joy Medley, Rhodope Walker, Mia Walker, and Billie Walker; son, William O. Medley; step-daughter, Dr. Lisa K. Brown; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

As a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle; William loved telling stories and joking with his family and friends. He will be eternally missed by his loved ones who will cherish a lifetime of memories, laughter and love.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022 at 10:00 am at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA with Reverend Olivia Maxwell officiating. Interment will be at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 2:00 pm.
