Obituary for William Allen

William Calvin Allen was born November 21, 1931 in Camp Hill, Alabama to Sandy G and Love Mae Allen. William confirmed his faith in Christ as his Lord & Savior during his latter years. He served 21 years in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam and Korean War. He retired from the Army with an Honorable discharge in January of 1970. After serving in the military, William went on to work for McKee Bakery, as a Regional Truck Driver and retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority, where he worked in public safety at the Watts Bar and Raccoon Mountain locations. With God’s grace and the support of his faithful and caring wife & children, he lived as a laryngeal cancer survivor for 34 years.

William shared 26 wonderful years with his loving wife, Darawan L. Allen before she went to be with the Lord on October 18th of 1995.

Among those who preceded him in death include his father, Sandy G. Allen, his adored mother, Love Mae Allen, his beloved wife, Darawan L. Allen and his granddaughter, Asia Cleveland. His aunts, Annie Bell Tinsley, Odie Mell Skillern and his uncle, Haywood Tinsley.

Cherishing his memories include his brother, Franklin Delano Allen; nieces, Charita D. Allen, Leticia Allen and nephew, Derrick Allen; his devoted son, Joseph (Cathy) Allen; grandchildren – Christopher (Lauren) Winston of Nashville, TN, great-grandchildren – Braylie & Braxtyn Winston; Kristen (Blake) Foster, Jordan A. Allen of Atlanta, GA, Jaylen Allen, Jacob Allen, and Justyce Allen. His devoted daughter, Dwanna (Charles) Kimbrough, grandchildren – Lya J. Kimbrough, Jeremy L. Kimbrough, Jaida D. Kimbrough and great-granddaughter – Zendaya G. Patton. His devoted son, Justin (Erica) Allen, grandchildren Jalah D. Allen, Eli Blalock, Frankie Finch, Maya Allen and Theo Allen. Daughter, Sherrolyn Williams of Orlando, FL and grandchildren – Leroy Williams, Jr., Adrian (Marquita) Williams, Sylvia (Willie) Lockwood, grandchildren – Telly Glass and Dana Glass. Daughter, Lovea (Derrick) Tenny of Orlando, FL and grandchild – Troney Allen. Son, William C. Allen, Jr. of Orlando, FL, and grandchildren – William C. Allen III, Emmanuel Allen. Son, Charles Christopher Allen and grandchild – Charles Christopher Allen, Jr. Daughter, Jackie Allen of Atlanta, GA. His uncle, Sydney Skillern; several other great-grandchildren and a host of family members and friends.

William loved his family in word & deed; he had a strong will to live, a caring spirit and an infectious smile, which he shared with the world.

A public viewing will be held 2:00 – 6:00 pm Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at the funeral home. A private funeral service will be held. Interment: 1:30 pm Thursday, August 27 at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
