Obituary for Terry "Lil Man" Tyrone Whaley

Terry Tyrone Whaley, born December 11, 1954, to Jesse and Mary Lois Whaley in Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022, at West Los Angeles VA Medical Center, in Los Angeles, California.

Terry was educated in the Chattanooga public school system, including Howard High School. During his early years, he attended Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend W. Flenoy. Terry joined the U.S. Army, where he bravely served his country from April 20, 1977, and obtained an honorary discharge on June 28, 1989. Throughout his time in the military, Terry attained accolades other than the high-ranking status of E-9 Master Sergeant; one being Sharpshooter.

Terry is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jesse and Mary Lois Whaley; brother, Willie James Whaley; sister, Janice Delois Whaley; grandparents, James and Willie Pearl Grimes.

He leaves to cherish his memory one brother, Andrew Whaley; five sisters, Joann Goolsby, Acquanella Ogbemudia, Bobbie J. Whaley, Vanessa Whaley, and Cynthia Whaley. Devoted nieces and nephews are Towan Whaley, Acquanita Lucas, Melanie (Rene’) Palacio; Myiesha (Corey) Johnson; Shanetha (Brandon) Jenkins, Andrena Whaley, Atina Whaley; Spencer Whaley, John McCorkle, Starrdrick (Lorie) Walker, Dunte Smith, Anthony Wilkens, Jr., Andrew Whaley, Jr., Ian Goolsby, and Xavier Goolsby. Cousins are Truesinda McElderry, Veronica (Joseph) Underwood, Bridgitte Carey, Regina (Patrick) Mertilien, and Terrance Watson. Other special extended family include Obadiah Bradley, Olivia Bradley-Bowe, Joanne Bradley-McCree, and Willie and Jeannie Pierce, and many other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held 11:00 AM-12:30 PM, Thursday, December 8, 2022, followed by a 12:30 PM funeral service in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 423-622-9995.

Interment: Chattanooga National Cemetery. Gate time 2:00 PM.
