Obituary for Tawana P. Hinton

Tawana Pontia Hinton, 64, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022, in Chattanooga, TN at a local hospital. She was a devoted and longtime member of Miracle Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the culinary committee.
Tawana was born on April 21, 1958, to Lizzie Mae Lane Hester and Charles Robert. Tawana was educated in the Chattanooga school system and was a proud graduate of the Howard High class of 1976. She was a faithful and well-loved employee with the Chattanooga Housing Authority for over 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle, Annie Ruth “Big Momma” and James Flint who played an essential role in her upbringing; brother, Esmond Sparks; nephew, Johnnie Lee Sanders, III.

Tawana is survived by the love of her life for over forty years, her husband, Darrell Hinton of Chattanooga, TN; mother, Liz Hester of Chattanooga, TN; father, and step-mother, Charles and Linda Roberts, all from Chattanooga, TN; sons, Charles Hinton, Murfreesboro, TN, Darrell (Tamieka) Hinton, Jr., Davious (Shonda) Garret, Chattanooga, TN; daughter, Shadarrell Hinton, Chattanooga, TN; sisters, Connie (Thomas) Rooks of Rossville, GA, Bridgette Fredrick, La’Dana Churchill; brothers, Dedrick Roberts, Gregory Walker, and Tauris Odom all of Chattanooga, TN

Words can’t describe the type of person Tawana was. She was simply Everything; A wife, a mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, but most importantly, a child of God. Her relationship with God was evident in the way she lived her life and how she treated not only her family but anyone who crossed paths with her. Tawana was a loving, supportive, positive, and just a beautiful person inside and out. She was truly a blessing to anyone who encountered her.

Public viewing will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022, from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 423-622-9995. An 11:00 am funeral service will be held Friday, December 30, 2022, at Miracle MB Church, 2009 Ruby Street.

Interment: Forest Hills Cemetery.
