Obituary for Tantonja Fortson

Tantonja “Tat” Fortson, of Chattanooga, departed this life on Thursday, April 28, 2022, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Tantonja was born on June 10, 1976, to Willie Hubbard and Aldine Fortson. He was educated in the Chattanooga Public Schools System and was a 1995 graduate of City High School where he was a star basketball player. After graduation, he continued his education at Atlanta Metro College of Atlanta, GA, and while in college there, he played basketball. During the year 1996 to 1997, he received All American JUCO. He also received a ring for the World Championship MVP.

Tantonja was previously employed by the Chattanooga Housing Authority and later worked at Pilgrim's Pride.

Those who preceded him in death include his son, Trenton; great grandparents, Thomas and Nannie Mitchell; grandfathers, Egertis Butchee, Raymond Fortson, and Hunrt Hubbard; uncle, Robert Hubbard.

Those left to cherish his precious memories, are parents, Willie Hubbard and Aldine Fortson Hubbard; grandmothers Geraldine Fortson and Louise Hubbard, sister, LaFonda Witcher Jones; three brothers, Wendell (Tia) Witcher, Willie Witcher, and bonus brother/ friend, Wesley Cook; uncles, Ray Fortson, Fredrick (Mary) Fortson, Dennis (Nadine) Fortson, of Chattanooga; Stanley, Farris, Ernest, Lawrence, and Alfred Hubbard; aunts, Sharon Fortson, Belinda A. Butchee Hardy, Cindy Butchee, Angela Butchee, Sandranet Butchee Fortson (Angelica Hudgins), and Sabrina Bell; great uncles, Thomas Mitchell, Jr. of Nashville, TN, Ricky (Patricia) Mitchell, Michael (Mary) Mitchell, Terry (Valerie) Mitchell, and Tracy Mitchell.; great aunts, Gloria Sullivan, Carolyn Isom, Sheila McGee Mitchell, and Aretha (David) Thomas; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; special friends, Stephanie Beene and Palmentra Williams.

Public viewing will be held on Saturday, May 14th, from 9:00 AM until 1:30 PM, followed immediately by a funeral service at 1:30 in the Chapel of the funeral home.

Interment will be at the Highland Memorial Gardens.
