Obituary for Sylvia Katherine Covington

Sylvia Katherine Covington was born June 14, 1941, to the late Curtis and Wilma Jones Russell. Sylvia was the fourth child of twelve.

Sylvia accepted Christ at an early age and later rededicated her life to Christ by joining New United Baptist Church. She followed her pastor W. McKinley Holloway to Living Stones Baptist Church. Sylvia attended Howard High School. She was in the culinary field and worked for Homer’s Restaurant, Erlanger and Dupont Textiles.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Curtis and Wilma Russell; her late husband, Ronald Earl Covington; her sons, Eric Russell, Arthur Gantt and Russell Covington; daughter, Edna Covington; sister, Rosa Lee Russell; brothers, Curtis, Walter Jr. and William Russell; cherished friend, Laverne Fields-Harden

She leaves to cherish her memories, Lynn Russell, a loving daughter and caretaker; god-daughter, Nicole Fields; granddaughters, Lynnette (Thaddeus) Davenport, Shekinah Russell; grandsons, Cedric Russell, Darius Russell, Deunta Russell, Victoria Covington, Vanessa Covington, NaTasha (Marvin) Twiggs, and Alfonzo Russell; siblings, Lebron (Mattie) Russell, Johnny Russell (Joyce), Charles Russell (Sharon King), Mary Russell, Gladys Russell, Patrick Russell, and Theresa Russell; devoted friends, Ottie Ransom, Kay Brownlow, Lavonia Rivers, Renee, and Moses Foster; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Public viewing will be held 11:00 am – 12:00 pm Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Holy Temple Cathedral, 2311 Bliss Avenue, Chattanooga, followed by a 12:00 noon funeral service. The burial will begin at 10:30 am Monday, March 13, 2023, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
