Obituary for Sylvia Ammons Partridge
Sylvia Ammons Partridge, 64, passed away at home on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. She was born to the late Frank Ammons and Mary Frances Gaines Ammons on October 15, 1956.
A lifelong Chattanooga resident, Sylvia graduated from Howard High School in 1974. She went on to attend Tennessee State University, where she met her husband of 39 years, and graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree. She received her Master of Education from Trevecca Nazarene College.
An educator for 30 years, Sylvia impacted hundreds of children’s lives as a teacher at Piney Woods, Clifton Hills School, Big Ridge Elementary, and beyond through various summer programs.
After retiring, Sylvia spent the time traveling the United States with her family. An avid baseball fan, she visited all Major League Baseball parks east of the Mississippi River, the most memorable being Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. Sylvia also enjoyed spending her time reading and listening to Gospel music and R&B Oldies.
Sylvia attended Olivet Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Pi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
Sylvia leaves behind her devoted husband, Alvin Partridge; as well as loving children Tiffany Partridge, Alvin “Lionel” (Diana) Partridge, and Lauren Partridge; grandchildren Deshaun Pugh, Reagan Pugh, Isaiah Partridge, and Brooklyn Partridge; siblings Willie Frank Ammons, Connie Ammons Johnson, Jerome Ammons, Clarence (Clarissa) Ammons, Ronald Ammons, and Robin Ammons; cherished friends Earnestine Hollimon, Sandra Lawrence, and Jacquelyne Flournoy; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, April 12, 2-6 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37404. A private funeral will be held Tuesday, April 13 at 1pm, and will also be livestreamed on the John P. Franklin Funeral Home Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/jpfchattanooga. Interment immediately following at Forest Hills Cemetery.
