Obituary for Sidney Skillern

Sidney Lee Skillern was born January 28, 1925, to Harry Collins Skillern and Gertrude Skillern in Bakewell, Tennessee. He passed away March 18, 2021 in Chattanooga. He was the youngest of two boys. Sidney attended Booker T. Washington School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943.

Sidney accepted Christ while attending Mount Annie Baptist Church in Bakewell, Tennessee. His work places include: South Central Bell Telephone Company, Crane Enamel Company, and Provident Life Insurance. Later he started his own business. He was owner/operator of his own company, S L & S Moving and Hauling Company.

Sidney was a former member of Missionary Ridge Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board, Choir, and as Sunday School Superintendent. Later, he joined Tucker Missionary Baptist Church where he has served as Deacon, Sunday School student, and Men's Choir.

Sidney is preceded in receiving his new home assignment by his wife, Odie Mell Allen-Skillern of 70 years; son, Victor; grandson, Victor Skillern, Jr.

A public viewing will be held 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Saturday. March 27, 2021, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home. A private family funeral service will be held at Tucker Missionary Baptist Church. Interment: Chattanooga National Cemetery, 10:30 am Monday, March 29, 2021.
