Sheila Irene Simmons was born June 1, 1951, in Chattanooga, TN. She was better known as “Rene” by family and friends. Sheila was called home, Saturday, November 12, 2022.
Rene was “The Strongest Woman We Knew” as her son always said. She was a Hustling Tiger and graduated from Howard High School. She was a faithful member of New Sholar Avenue Baptist Church. She volunteered as a Foster Granny at Hillcrest and Harrison Elementary Schools.
Rene loved the kids. She was a cowboys fan. She loved butterflies and loved to sew. Rene’s love for her family is “one of a kind.” She was the definition of kind and caring.
Rene was preceded in death by her parents, Vernice Yvonne Simmons and Austin Melvin Buckner Sr; sister, Reba Joyce Simmons; brother, Kenneth Lamar Simmons and great niece Quanterria Hughes.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Kenneth Goodwin; sister, Cynthia Buckner(Clayton); brothers, Austin Simmons and Reginald Simmons; nieces, Tamieka Simmons, Kimberly Hughes, and Miya Harris(Craig); nephews, Jeffrey Simmons, Marcus Douglas, Myron Douglas, and Tobias Simmons; host of cousins, great-great-great-nieces and nephews, and other family members, and friends.
Public viewing will be held from 9:00 am-2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 22, 2022, followed by a 2:00 pm funeral service in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 423-622-9995.
Interment: Highland Memorial Gardens.
