Obituary for Richard Clarence Hurt Sr.

Richard Clarence (R.C.) Hurt, Sr. was born to the late William D. and Agnes Wright Hurt on August 28, 1946 in Penfield Greene County Georgia. Richard was a 1964 graduate of Floyd T. Corry High school in Greensboro, Georgia. Richard was the President of his class, President and charter member of the Jackson Merritt National Honor Society and the Salutatorian of his class. He was Mr. Achiever, Best all-around, Most Loyal, Mr. Superlative, Most Humorous and Most Likely to succeed. Richard attended Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. He was a member of PHA Lookout Lodge 29 and a faithful member and Deacon of Second Baptist Missionary Church in Chattanooga Tennessee.

Richard was employed by Combustion Engineering Inc., Chattanooga Tennessee for 42 years where his duties were: Boiler Maker-trained employees to operate machinery; responsible for composing reports on production status; set up and operated machines to specification; read and interpreted related blueprints; used measuring devices; operated cranes to hoist and place materials; Hydro machine; blast machines; weld tester operation; saw. He was also the Union Representative for Combustion.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William D. and Agnes Wright Hurt; two children, Stanley E. Hurt and Camela H. Barnhart; niece, Dawn Mechelle Hurt; nephew, William (Billy) Hurt, III.

He leaves to cherish his memories two devoted sons, Richard (Stephanie) Hurt, Jr. and Robert (Curnekia) Hurt; daughter, Maretta Hurt; grandchildren, Jessica Barnart, Jericus Barnart. Whitney Espey, Terretta Espey, Kyana (Travis) Rogers, Rihanna, Olivia, Makaila, Kaunyae, and Jaylen; great grandchildren, Syncere, Thaddius, Javion, Serenity, Malachi, and Jayce; sisters, Nellie Brown, Gussie (Robert) Carlyle, Irene (Harold) Heard, Rosa Hurt and Eva Hurt Hawes; brothers, Williams (Rosalyn) Hurt, Jr., Arthur Hurt, John (Pamela) Hurt; son-in-law, Randy Barnart; aunts, Nettie Wright, Leola Wright, Marva Hurt; uncle, Leroy (Geneva) Wright; nieces, Andre, Tara (Christopher), Shameka (Mike), Erica, Krystal, and Shawana; nephews, Arthur Jr., Kevin (Shelia), W.T.; great nieces and nephews; special friend, Bonnie Davison; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held 2:00 – 6:-00 pm Monday, November 16, 2020 at the funeral home. A private family funeral service will be held. Interment: Highland Memorial Gardens.
