Obituary for Phillis Ann White

Our beloved mother, Phillis Ann Martin White, transitioned from this earthly body on February 14, 2021. She was born to the late Romania Mae and George Martin Jr. on July 8, 1931, in Chattanooga Tennessee, the second eldest of five children.

Mrs. White was educated in the Chattanooga public school system attending Orchard Knob Elementary School and Booker T. Washington High School. She was employed by DuPont, and the City of Chattanooga beginning with the Model Cities Program in 1967. She retired from the City of Chattanooga Human Services Department completing over 29 years of service.

Mrs. White was an ardent and fervent believer in honoring God and giving service to Him. She attended Transfiguration Church under the leadership of Rev. Alfred Hawkins where she was a church mother. She volunteered and worked diligently in her community. Her home was always open to celebrations and festivities. The hostess was always in charge. Family and friends passed through the doors in a constant flow. Whether it was shelter, food, or conversation, everyone was welcomed.

Mrs. White was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James William White, Sr; siblings, Junious Spencer Martin, Saturah J. Martin, George Ella Green, and John D. Martin; brother-in-law, Thomas Green, Sr. No doubt there was a joyous reunion with her son, James William White, Jr, as he passed 10 days prior to her death.
