Our beloved mother, Phillis Ann Martin White, transitioned from this earthly body on February 14, 2021. She was born to the late Romania Mae and George Martin Jr. on July 8, 1931, in Chattanooga Tennessee, the second eldest of five children.

Mrs. White was educated in the Chattanooga public school system attending Orchard Knob Elementary School and Booker T. Washington High School. She was employed by DuPont, and the City of Chattanooga beginning with the Model Cities Program in 1967. She retired from the City of Chattanooga Human Services Department completing over 29 years of service.

Mrs. White was an ardent and fervent believer in honoring God and giving service to Him. She attended Transfiguration Church under the leadership of Rev. Alfred Hawkins where she was a church mother. She volunteered and worked diligently in her community. Her home was always open to celebrations and festivities. The hostess was always in charge. Family and friends passed through the doors in a constant flow. Whether it was shelter, food, or conversation, everyone was welcomed.

Mrs. White was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James William White, Sr; siblings, Junious Spencer Martin, Saturah J. Martin, George Ella Green, and John D. Martin; brother-in-law, Thomas Green, Sr. No doubt there was a joyous reunion with her son, James William White, Jr, as he passed 10 days prior to her death.

Those left to cherish her precious memories, daughter, Ms. Spencer D Horton; son Reginald White; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday, February 25, 2021, at the funeral home. Interment: Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The funeral service will be broadcast live beginning at 11:30 AM, Thursday, February 25, 2021, at Chattanooga.

Arrangements by John P Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 423-622-9995.

She fed children who were hungry is Ms. White’s legacy. She sat at the Tennesse Round Table and told state legislators how to feed those who could not feed themselves. She set on National platforms to fight for the hungry children in this country. We have to be brave enough to follow Phillis White’s footsteps.

To the family, remembering Phillis White. She was the mother of Transfiguration. Church. She was faithful and her word was her bond. you could depend on her to be honest and true to what she said. I know she loved her church family and her Pastor(Alfred Hawkins). She will be missed by all who loved her. Rest in Peace. Sis.Jean
