Obituary for Pete Ted Labon, Jr.

Pete Ted Labon Jr. was born June 28, 1935, to Pete T. Labon, Sr. and Lillian Cannon Labon. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jeffrey Labon; two brothers, Maurice Thompson, and Rev. William Henry Thompson; three sisters, Inez Moore, Hattie Bell Terrell, and Minnie Sue Labon; devoted friend, Harold (Hal) Hobbs.

Pete attended Fort Cheatham, Orchard Knob, and Howard High Schools. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church for 61 years and served on the finance committee, trustee board, and the landscaping committee.

Pete was employed for many years as a truck driver for Cudahy Packing Company and Dixie Savings Store.

Pete’s survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Johnson Labon; daughter, Valerie Johnson; son, Rodney Johnson; daughter, Sherry Labon; grandchildren, Darian Nocentelli, Kevin Johnson, Crystal Johnson, Jerica (DeMarcus) Hall, and Jordan Johnson of Austin, TX; great grandchildren, Donovan Johnson, A’Raeah Johnson, Nevaeh Johnson, and Paris Putman; brother-in-law, Edward (Ava) Allen of Winston Salem; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted friend, Jimmy Dyer, and several other relatives and close friends.


Public viewing will be held from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Mount Calvary at Baptist Church, 5131 Highway 58 North. Interment: Forest Hills Cemetery.
