Mr. Percy L Penn, 77, of Chattanooga, departed this life Monday, April 3, 2023, at his residence. He was born January 18, 1946, in Chattanooga TN to Herbert Penn, Sr and Garner Mae Penn. Percy was educated in the Chattanooga Public School system and was a graduate of Riverside High School, Following graduation he served in the United States Army. Percy accepted Christ at an early age. He was last employed as an armed security officer.
Percy was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Penn, Sr and Garner Mae Penn; grandmother, Iona Smith; brothers, Herbert Penn, Jr, Reverend Lawrence E Penn; sister, Ruth Penn “Baby Sister” Leeth; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Zella Penn; children, Lisa (James) Davis, Michael (Lynetta) Penn, and Yavondalon Owens all Chattanooga; brothers, Eugene (Annie) Penn, Robert (Virginia) Penn, Willie (Fannie) Penn, and Larry Penn, all of Chattanooga, Don (Mary) Penn of Louisville, KY; sisters, Louise Penn Hemphill, Barbara A. Norwood of Chattanooga, and Linda Iona Jarrett of Louisville, KY; mother-in-law, Mrs. Carrie Davidson; brothers- in law, Richard (Lonita) Davidson and Charles Davidson of Chattanooga, TN; sister-in-law, Patricia Lewis of Nashville, TN; grandchildren Eddie (Theidra) Swanson, Isaiah (Lauren) Swanson, Charity Dunbar, Khadija Sanders, Demetria Greer and Khiya Clopton all of Chattanooga TN; Micah Penn, Issac Penn, and Austin Mayweather of Marietta, GA; eight great- grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
Public viewing will be held 9:00 am-12:30 pm, Wednesday, April 12, 2023, followed immediately by the funeral service in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 423-622-9995.
Interment: Chattanooga National Cemetery. Gate Time 2:00 PM
