Obituary for Patricia Hamilton A Swafford

Mrs. Patricia Hamilton Swafford was born May 29, 1949 to James and Margaret Hamilton in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The oldest of four children, she received Christ at an early age and peacefully made her heavenly transition on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 in Willowbrook, Illinois.

Affectionately known as “Tricia” by those who knew and loved her, she graduated from Howard High School (Chattanooga, TN) in 1967 and went on to complete her bachelor’s degree at Lane College, where she also became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated. Several years later, Tricia met the love of her life, Willard Swafford, they were married and began building a wonderful life together in the Midwest, first relocating from Tennessee to St. Paul, Minnesota and later to the Chicago area of Illinois.

Tricia was employed at FlowServe Corporation for many years until her retirement; however, her proudest roles were as a loving wife to Willard and devoted mother to her only child, Cory, until the time of their deaths. Anyone who knew Tricia can attest to how much she loved and honored her husband and how proud she was of her son and his accomplishments and the young man of high character he had become.

Generous with her time, love and resources, Tricia was always available when others were in need and she was greatly loved. She was preceded in death by her loving & devoted husband, Willard Swafford and her cherished only son, Cory Swafford; her parents, James Hamilton and Margaret Simpson; her brother, James Edward Hamilton.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory, two sisters Rosetta Holt (Willowbrook, IL) and Trevor Ingram (Ellenwood, GA); aunt, Betty Ross (Lithonia, GA); uncle, Jimmie (Linda) Allen, Sr. (Chattanooga, TN); nephews, Frederick (April) McCleskey (Houston, TX), David McCleskey (Dallas, TX) and Alan Ingram (Montgomery, AL); niece, Meon Ingram (Ellenwood, GA); stepchildren Gerald (Melanie) Swafford (Soddy Daisy, TN) and Cathy Davis (Chattanooga, TN); special cousins, Ernestine Dixon (Chattanooga, TN) and Phyllis Ross (Chicago, IL); dear friend & high school classmate, Donna Hale Stone and a host of other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held 9:00 am - 11:30 am Thursday, August 18, 2022, followed by a 11:30 am chapel service. Interment: Forest Hills Cemetery.
