Obituary for Mildred Logan

Mildred Annette Mathis Logan, 74, passed away February 14, 2021, in Chattanooga. She attended Spears Avenue Elementary School, Second District Junior High School and graduated from Riverside High School, class of 1964.

Mildred attended Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio and Chattanooga State Community College. She was retired from the Avondale SDA daycare center. She was a charter member of the Chattanooga Choral Society for the Preservation of the African-American song from 1984 until 2021. She was a member of the Battlefield Community SDA church in Ringgold, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra Mathis and Nellie Mathis; brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Gatha Novis Logan, Sr.; son, Gatha Novis Logan, Jr., Michael Joaquin (Shelissia) Logan; daughter, Carla Denise (Maurille) Smith; grandchildren, Maurille, and Marquis Smith, Mariah and Micah Logan, all of Chattanooga; sister, Patricia Mathis Green; brothers, Larry (Margaret) Dandy, and Michael Dandy; in-laws, Frances Glover, Yvonne Thomas, Libby Dandy, Aundrette Logan, Charles Logan, and Barbara Mathis.

Public viewing will be held 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Saturday, February 20, 2021, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mildred Mathis Logan to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis Tennessee, 38105, The Project Rescue, 1904 Prigmore Road, East Ridge, Tennessee, 37412, or a worthy study scholarship fund of your choice.

A private funeral service will be held.

Interment: Chattanooga National Cemetery at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 23, 2021.
