Michael Hammond, affectionately known as Big Mike, was born on October 26, 1960. He was the youngest of four sons born to Jethro, Sr. and Margaret L. Hammond in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He departed this life on November 29, 2022, in Franklin, TN.
Mike was educated in the Chattanooga Public school system and graduated from Chattanooga City High School as a member of the Class of 1979. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country for four years before being honorably discharged in 1983.
Mike worked downtown for Republic Parking for several years before relocating to Johnson City, TN for the last ten years. He loved music and enjoyed being the DJ for family functions. He also enjoyed meeting and talking with people wherever he went.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Jethro, Sr. and Margaret L. Hammond; brother, Jethro Hammond, Jr.
His memories will be forever cherished by his brothers, William (Barbara) Hammond and Thomas (Beverly) Hammond, both of Chattanooga, TN; nephews, William, Jr. (Carla) and Kendal Hammond both of Chattanooga, Tennessee; uncles, Eugene (Sylvia) Hammond, Columbus, OH and Carlisle (Mary) Hammond, Huntsville, AL; aunt, Geneva Hammond, Huntsville, AL; a host of relatives, friends, and his North Chattanooga family.
Public viewing will be held from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM, Friday, December 9, 2022, followed by a 3:00 PM, funeral in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 423-622-9995.
Interment: Chattanooga National Cemetery.
