Obituary for Margaret Ree Townsend

Margaret R. Townsend, 83 of Chattanooga, Tennessee passed away March 25, 2023. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Tom H. and Lula Woods; her husband, Little Ed Townsend; her infant son, Jeffry A. Woods; granddaughter, Karnesha L. Hamilton; grandson, Adam S. Roberson.

Margaret was a member of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church and served as an usher for many years prior to moving to Tyler, Texas. Shortly after arriving in Tyler, Texas, Margaret became a member of Hopewell Valley Baptist Church where she later joined the choir. Margaret was also a matron in the OES in Tyler, Texas. Margaret returned to Chattanooga after the death of her husband Little Ed Townsend in 2017.

Margaret was a dedicated and kind mother and grandmother who supported her family in all of their highs and lows. Margaret maintained a positive outlook and can-do attitude regardless of whatever was thrown her way. Margaret passionately loved cooking and baking for family and friends. Her favorite flowers are white roses and carnations and her favorite color is blue. But above all, Margaret loved her Savior and honored him by living a Christ-like life.

Margaret is survived by six children and their spouses, Valerie Jennings (James “Rabbit”) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Lula Mathis of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Audrey “Lady” Henry of Tyler, Texas, Theodore “Edgar” Hamilton (Veronica) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, William “David” Hamilton of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Dwight Hamilton of Tyler, Texas; 16
grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Woods, Jr. (Dot) of Stevenson, Alabama; two sisters, Thelma Jackson (Robert) of Atlanta, Georgia and Angela “Penny” Woods, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; several
aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Public viewing will be held at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, Thursday, April 6, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (EDT). A celebration of life will be held at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, 4801 TN-58, Chattanooga,
Tennessee 37416 on Friday, April 7, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. (EDT) with Rev. Ternae Jordan, Officiant.

Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery, 4016 Tennessee Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee
37410.
