Obituary for Lillie L. Broadnax

Mrs. Lillie Lewis Broadnax, 91, transitioned from earth to her heavenly home on Sunday, November 20, 2022, with her daughters Valerie Lynnette Davis and Kimberly Davis Boles by her side. Lillie was born February 23, 1931 to Harvey Lewis Sr. and Mattie Lee Johnson Lewis. She was the granddaughter of the late Frank Weems and Willie Marshall Weems and Charlie Johnson and Lillie Evans Johnson.

Lillie graduated from Howard High School in the Class of 1949. She was a life-long member of New Monumental Baptist Church where she was an active member of the Progressive Ministry and a founding member of the Inspirational Choir. She retired from Cumberland Corporation and participated in the Foster Grandparent Program for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Thelma Smith, Annie Jeffrey, and Dwartha Grayson; brothers, Harvey Lewis, Jr., Raymond Lewis Sr., and Nathaniel Lewis. Lillie married Eddie Lee Davis and to that union two daughters were born: Valerie Lynnette Davis and Kimberly Davis (Donald, Jr.) Boles. She later married Edward N. Broadnax for more than 36 years, until his passing November 2, 2014. There were no children in this union.

She leaves to cherish her memories, daughters, Valerie Davis and Kimberly (Donald) Boles, both of Chattanooga, TN; two grandchildren, Latoria Simmons, of Chattanooga and Alexandria Davis, of Nashville, TN; sister, Barbara Higgins, of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Lillian K. Lewis, of Atlanta, GA; great grandchildren, Kymberly Simmons, Malek Dillard, and Angel Sparks, all of Chattanooga; two great-great grandchildren, Da’Ryiah Mungin and Darron Mungin, Jr.; three stepchildren, Mary Bruce, Diane Salter, and Edward, Jr.; brother and sister-in-law, Bill (Bessie) Broadnax; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lillie loved God, her family, church, and friends. She loved to travel and sing. She led a full life and will be missed by all that knew her.

Public viewing will be held 10:00 am – 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at New Monumental Baptist Church, 901 Woodmore Lane, Chattanooga, followed by a 2:00 pm funeral service.
