Obituary for Juanita Holloway

Juanita Harris-Holloway, 85 departed from earth to her heavenly home on April 17th, 2023 in Chattanooga, TN. She was born April 30th,1937 to the late James and Arie Eberhardt-Harris. Juanita was educated in the public schools of Chattanooga, graduating from Howard High School in 1955, Owen Junior College 1958 and Tennessee State University in 1961. After college, Juanita worked as a secretary at Howard Elementary and in accounts and budgeting at the Hamilton County Court House.

Juanita was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church uniting under the leadership of Rev. M. H. Ribbins in 1948. Juanita was a longtime administrative assistant for the church, retiring in 2005. She was a member of Club 11, Sunday School, Mission and Benevolent Committee, the Birthday Club and volunteered with many other organizations in the church. Juanita enjoyed working word search puzzles, reading her Bible, spending time with her family, friends, and the yearly family reunions.

Her biggest enjoyment was having all four of her sons at home at the same time. In all, family and church were the most important things to her. Juanita was the only child of her parents who preceded her in death as well as brother and sisters-in-laws, Atheria (Edward) Freeman, William (Bettye), Arless (Bettye) Holloway and niece ,Deja Holloway.

She is survived by her loving and caring family; her husband of 61 years, Johnny D. Holloway of Chattanooga; four sons, Jay (Vanessa) Holloway of Chattanooga; Juan (Aisha) Holloway of Antioch, TN; Jeffrey (Tiffany) Holloway of Chattanooga and Jeremy (Nekeya) Holloway of Frisco, Texas. Brother-in-laws Fred D. (Hazel) Holloway, Laveen Az, and Edward Freeman, Chattanooga. Grandchildren Garrick Doyle, Gabrielle (TaQuan) Johnson, Jasmine Cothern, Lindsey Hammonds, Alexandria (Jeremiah) Cooper, Trenda, Taniya, McKenna and Devon Holloway. Nieces and nephews, Fredena (Deric) Williams, Gahanna, OH; Arless (Tanya) Holloway, Upper Marlboro, MD; Karen Rhodes, Chattanooga, TN; Dinessa (Robert) Solomon, Cleveland, OH; Dwayne (Darnella) Holloway Murfreesboro, TN; Talitha (Herbert) Scruggs, Laveen, AZ and Shannon (Ashley) Johnson Chattanooga, TN. Close and dear friends Barbra Wofford, Mozell Thaxton, Evelyn Lovelady, Mary Quals, Rosa McClure, and Jewell Cousin.

Public viewing will be held Thursday, April 27th, 2023, from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m., family hour 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Second Missionary Baptist Church 2305 E. 3rd Street, 37404. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 28th, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Second Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. Ernest L. Reid, Officiant. Interment: Chattanooga National Cemetery.
