Obituary

Juan Heriberto López Sanchez was born on June 23,1933 (birthdate officially registered as September 11, 1933) in Camuy, Puerto Rico.

His parents were Nicasio López and Juana Sanchez and he was the fourth of 14 children. In his youth, he joined the US Army, and served in the Korean War as a Corporal. He worked for 30 years at the Puerto Rico Electric Power Company from which he retired in 1989. Juan and his wife Aurora, moved to Florida in 1990 and then to Chattanooga, TN in 2016.

Juan was an active member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church for the last 61 years, which he faithfully supported with his time, talents and resources. He was a devoted husband and father who seriously took his role as the family patriarch. His priorities in life were to share the gospel of Jesus with others and to assure the well-being of his family. During his life and especially during his final battle, he taught us to be strong, and to put our trust in the Lord.

There are no better words to describe his life that those found in 2 Timothy 4: 7-8:

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”

The family that Juan leaves behind includes his loving wife of 64 years, Aurora Soto; their threechildren, and his two older sons from his first marriage. (This family tree includes three sons, two daughters, 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren).

Yahya López (son), his wife Fatima and their daughters, Ayah, Ikram, and Nasina López (grandkids).

Juan Reinaldo López (son), his wife Karen and their children Brian and Sarah López (grandkids).

Elsa McCullough (daughter), her husband Edward McCullough, and her children,

Natalia Josephs (granddaughter), her husband Kareem Josephs, and their kids, Emma and Kaleb Josephs (great grandkids);

Efrain H. Cintron (grandson) and his wife, Ruthie Gulley Cintron.

(Efrain Cintron father of Natalia and Efrain JR.)

Isaac López (son), his wife Yaidy, and their sons:

Eldred López (grandson), his wife Liset and their kids, Aiden and Emily López (great grandkids);

Delmer López (grandson), his wife Ayaka, and their daughter Sara López (great granddaughter).

Iliana L. Abreut (daughter) and her son Eric Daniel Abreut (grandson). (Jorge Luis Abreut-father of Eric D. Abreut)

Our hearts are full of memories that bring us joy in a moment like this. Thanks to our blessed Lord that we know that soon and very soon we will be again reunited as a big family when our Lord and Savior comes in glory.

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words”. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

A public viewing will be held from 9 a.m.-noon on Friday, Dec. 18, at the funeral home. The funeral service will be broadcast live beginning at noon on Friday, Dec. 18, at www.johnpfranklinfuneralhomefacebook.com.

Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Arrangements are by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave.

My grandfather was a great man. He was my role model and friend. He loved to hold all his grandkids up in his hand and now he rests in his saviors hands. I wait until the day that I can see him again on the resurrection day!
