Obituary for Johnny Skelton

Johnny Lee Skelton was born Aug. 10,1946, in Colbert GA, to the union of John and Geneva Skelton. He attended South Side Grammar and South Side High School before moving to Chattanooga TN where he worked for Gilman Paint Company for a number of years. He later worked for Commercial Metals as an OTR Truck Driver. He became a crane operator for the company and retired in 2014 after 20 plus years due to illness.

Johnny received Christ and joined Mt. Joy Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev Willie A. Stephens. He was a member for over 20 years serving as an ordained deacon and choir member until his health failed. His favorite pastime was fishing.

He passed away on November 16, 2022, at The Health Center At Standifer Place.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Geneva Skelton; brother, Clinton Skelton; sister, Laverne Skelton Huff; two sons, Thomas Skelton and Alex Skeleton; grandson, Thane Gash, Jr.; stepson, Ben Parrish.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 18 years, Joyce Skelton; son, Gregory Skelton of Chattanooga; four daughters, Yolanda Gash of Austell, GA, Johanna Skelton of Chattanooga, Latisha (Tony) Benefield of Stockbridge, GA and Michelle (Pete) Ellis of Alpharetta, GA; three sisters, Lillie Barnes of Augusta, GA, Sarah Chaney, and Rosa Skelton of Athens, GA; four brothers, Ernest (Angelia) Skelton of Macon, GA, Paul (Charlene) Skelton of Athens, GA, Regin (Naomi) Skelton of Las Vegas, NV, and James Skelton of Elberton, GA; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; three stepsons, Robert Parrish, III of Chattanooga, Kenneth (Shemica) Parrish of San Antonio, TX, and Corey (Amanda) Parrish of Chesapeake, VA; one stepdaughter, Tonya Parrish of Stone Mountain, GA; close friends, Johnny Winston, Curtis Bryant, and Ed Freeman.

Public viewing will be held 2:00 pm-6:00 pm, Saturday, November 26, 2022, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 423-622-9995. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm, Sunday, November 27, 2022, in the chapel of the funeral home.

Interment will be held at 10:00 am Monday, November 28, 2022, at Highland Memorial Gardens.
