Obituary for James R McWhorter
James McWhorter, 66, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away on January 9, 2023, after a fervent battle with heart failure.
James was born on June 6, 1956, to James Days and Bernice McWhorter in Chattanooga. He attended Howard High School graduating in 1974.
After graduation, he landed his first job as Courtesy Concierge for Prebul Jeep and held the position for 20+ years and was most recently employed for 10+ years at Amazon of Chattanooga until he fell ill. While he was never married, he was an amazing father to 3 children, Keosha McWhorter, Jermaine McWhorter, and Jeremy McWhorter. Anyone who knew James knew that he was the most loving father a child could ask for.
James was a force of nature, determined to provide for his children and give them the life he felt they deserved. His children meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his children and always tried his best to support them.
James was also a passionate collector and could often be found bouncing from estate sale to estate sale when he wasn’t at home.
James was predeceased by Bernice McWhorter (mother), James Days (father), Steven McWhorter (brother), and Ronald McWhorter (brother).
He is survived by Keosha McWhorter (daughter), Jermaine McWhorter (son), Jeremy McWhorter (son), Reginald McWhorter (brother), Stephanie Sales (Sister), Brian Choice (brother), Rosalind Days (stepmother), Tristan Kilgore Jr. (grandson), Ja’Vieon McWhorter (grandson), Jaiden McWhorter (grandson), Justice McWhorter (granddaughter), Asten McWhorter (grandson), Aislynn McWhorter (granddaughter), Jerran McWhorter (grandson), and a host of nieces and nephews.
Public viewing will be held 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at the funeral home. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am Thursday, January 26, 2023, in the funeral home chapel. Interment: Highland Memorial Gardens.
