Jacqueline Yvette Ray, 60, of Harrison, passed away Sunday April 23, 2023, in Chattanooga. She was born Aug 7,1962, to the late Carol Joann Maxwell and Millard Arthur Thomas.
Mrs. Ray was a member of Sharon Pentecostal Deliverance Church of God, under the leadership of Pastor JoAnne Walker. She obtained her associate degree in early childhood education from Chattanooga State Technical Community College. She used her degree to become a teacher at many of the head start programs in Chattanooga. Jacqueline opened her daycare after the birth of her first grandson and decided to close after the birth of her fourth grandson.
Jacqueline later entered the Hamilton County Schools System as a teacher assistant.
She enjoyed reading on her kindle and spending time with her grandbabies. She loved talking on the phone to her special friends Paula Allgood, Sandra Dickson, and Kelly Howell.
Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents, Carol Maxwell and Millard Thomas; grandparents, John and Josephine Simmons Sr.; uncles, John Simmons Jr. and James Simmons; brother, Tommy Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her memory, long-time, dedicated husband, Darrell Ray Sr; her sons, Antoine Ray and Darrell Ray, Jr. both of Chattanooga; daughter, Antoinette Ray of Chattanooga; her grandchildren, (the boys) Adarrius Ray, Jachorri Ray-Finley, Marquis Ray, Cameron Jackson, and Tristan Ray all of Chattanooga; her sisters, Janice (Raymond) Calhoun of Atlanta GA, Renee Gunnells of Chattanooga, and Renita Pollard of Atlanta GA; her brother, Timmy Thomas of Chattanooga; aunt, Gloria Hinton of Chattanooga, mother-in-law, Queen Esther Ray, brother-in- law, Ira Ray of Chattanooga; special sister-in-law, Belinda Thurman of Chattanooga; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends; long-time best friend, Loretta Young.
Public viewing will be held Monday, May 1, 2023, starting at 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
An 11:00 AM funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2023, in the Chapel of John P Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 423-622-9995.
Interment will be held at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
