Obituary for Homer Maston, Jr.

Homer Maston Jr. was born on December 18, 1935, in Ooltewah, Tennessee to the union of Homer Maston Sr. and Celestine Taylor Maston. He went to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 14, 2022.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents; his cherished grandmother, Clara Cordell Jones whom he loved and adored; two half-sisters, Lucille Maston and Josephine Moss.

Homer served honorably in the US Navy aboard the USS Carpellotti as a former Seaman during the 1953 Korean Conflict where he received the National Defense Service Medal. After his discharge, he worked at and retired from both Olan Mills and the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga with thirty plus years of service. He was a faithful member of Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church where he was a part of the Ephesians Deacon Group and the Brotherhood Ministry.

Homer loved and was proud of his children and grandchildren who declared him as the best father and “granddaddy.” He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, and especially attending and watching his grandchildren participate in sporting events.

He leaves to cherish fond memories three children, Michael (Vanessa) Maston, Vita Wilkins, Mary (Kerry) Mills; eight grandchildren, Maurice Maston, Brittni Maston, Brandon (Ashley) Maston, Jasmyn (Cecil) Wilkins-Tanner, Holli Wilkins, Damien Wilkins, Taylor Mills, Zachary Mills; great grandchild, Amari Brewer; brother, Fred Maston, Sr.; special niece, Vonetta Maston; two nephews, Fred (Rhonia) Maston, Jr., Master Sergeant George (Lynn) Maston; special friend, Linda Dennis; god-daughter, Jennifer Jenkins; a host of great nieces, a great nephew, Darron Maston; brother-in-love, Fred Mills; former son-in-law, Gerald Wilkins, and many friends.

Homer’s Favorite Scripture: Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Public viewing will be held from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM, on Friday, July 22, 2022, followed by a 12:00 PM funeral service at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church, 1734 East 3rd Street

Interment: Chattanooga National Cemetery, Gate time 2:00 PM
