Herman Hosea Dorris, Jr. was born on September 22, 1937 to Herman Hosea Dorris, Sr. and Alice Dorris (Hughes) both of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He graduated from Howard High School. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After serving for four years he received an honorable discharge. Herman retired from Combustion Engineering as a security guard after working there for more than 29 years.

Herman was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. He was married to his lovely wife Charlene (Crutcher) Dorris for over 60 years. He was a “homebody” who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Herman was a hard-working man who instilled the importance of having a good work ethic to his children and others who were around him. He had a sharp mind and he was very knowledgeable in politics, sports and current events. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, talk radio and comedy shows.

Herman “Ya Ya” Hosea Dorris transitioned to the other side on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at the age of 83 in Hospice Care of Chattanooga with his beloved children by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Alice (Hughes) Dorris: sister, Katherine Dorris and brother, Louis C. Dorris. Cherishing his memories include his wife, Charlene (Crutcher) Dorris: his children, Melisa (James) Foster, Nellie Regina Dorris, Derrick (Gaylin) Dorris and Quinton (Erica) Dorris.
