Obituary for Hattie Mae Riley

Hattie M. Riley, 83, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Yazoo City, MS, on October 4, 1938, to the late Bishop and Ruby Lee (Stewart) Davis. Hattie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother (Granny), sister, aunt (Auntie), friend, mentor, and a believer of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She will be greatly missed by all who know her. Hattie was always ready to share the gospel of Jesus and help those in need.

Hattie attended Jackson, MS public schools, and Saint Francis Catholic School. Hattie has attended Hope City Church (formerly Alton Park Bible Church) since 1962. At Hope City Church, she was an Elder, Secretary, Sunday School teacher of all ages, and Christian Counselor. She taught Bible in the Public Housing Developments and was a Brownie and Awana leader. Hattie volunteered at Silverdale Correction Center. She also worked and volunteered at the Inner-City Ministry. Hattie went to Africa for eight years to present the gospel.

Hattie was married to LC Riley, and they moved to Chattanooga in 1959. They raised two daughters, Linda and Michele. Also, LC and Hattie raised LC's niece Linda Faye and her two children, Marcus and Toya.

Hattie was preceded in death by her husband, LC Riley, and daughter, Cheryl Michele Coleman; four brothers, and three sisters. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her daughters, Linda Riley (Charles) Cooke and Linda Faye (Henry) Riley-Wellon of Chattanooga, TN; brother, Melvin (Eunice) Davis of Madison, MS; two sisters, Charlene Cage and Darthy Lockett of Detroit, MI; two brothers, Tommy Lee Cage and James Cage of Detroit, MI; son in Law, Calvin Coleman; eight grandchildren, Courtney Cooke, Monique Parris-Taylor, Chrystal Cooke (Shannon) Phillips, Nicole Parris, LaMarcus Riley, LaToya (Tony) Oliver, and Quinchelle Wellon ; special nieces, Patience (Dimitri) Howard and Karen Davis; eight great-grandchildren; stepson, Walter L. Grant, Sr.; many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Public viewing will be held from 2:00 pm-6:00 pm on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, April 15, 2022 at Hope City Church, 7 North Tuxedo Avenue, Chattanooga TN. Interment: Lakewood Memory Gardens East.
