Obituary

Gloria Jean Lacy was born on December 14,1948, to the late Robert Lewis Allen and Barbara Jean Chapman in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She found eternal rest on March 26, 2021, at Erlanger Medical Center of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

She received Christ as her personal Savior at an early age at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Chattanooga, TN. She married Lee Andrew Lacy, Jr., on October 7, 1967, with whom she lived a life full of love while they faithfully served Christ together as one. She joined Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church in 1990 under the pastorate of Reverend Harold K. Lester. Gloria’s works were evident of commitment to Christ. She sang in the choir and was an active and faithful member of the Deaconess Ministry, Trustee Wives Ministry, Sunday School, Beautifying Guild, Travel Ministry, and Wednesday evening Bible study.

She enjoyed spending time with family, shopping, and traveling. She, however, was best known for her crafts, especially sewing, and cooking. She was talented extraordinaire and was a joy to be around. Her sense of humor would leave you “laughing out loud.”

She was predeceased by her son, Lee Andrew Lacy, III; and parents.

Gloria leaves behind treasuring precious memories, her beloved husband, Lee Andrew Lacy, Jr; daughter, Dr. Gabrielle (Tony) Collins, Stone Mountain, Georgia; three grandchildren, Brittanie Lacy, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Elijah Collins, and Zachariah Collins, Stone Mountain, Georgia; five brothers, Richard Simpson, of McDonough, Georgia, Robert Allen and Roger Ward, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Edward Matthews, of Jacksonville, Florida, and Kenny Allen, of Charlotte, North Carolina; two sisters, Winifred (Freddy) Allen-Cody and Gwenefred (Dannie) Allen-Williams, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; special friends, Sherry Bowie, Michelle Dockery, and Laverne McMutuary, all of Chattanooga, Tennessee; a host of other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held 2:00 PM- 6:00 PM, Thursday, April1, 2021, at the funeral home. A family funeral service will be held. Interment: Hamilton Memorial Gardens North.

The funeral service will be broadcast live beginning at 11:00 am EST Friday, April 2, 2021 at https://www.facebook.com/jpfchattanooga.

Arrangements by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 423-622-9995.

Gloria was sent to us by God after the birth of our second daughter. And what a godsend she was. Katie and David's second mother, Gloria was always there to offer advice, a shoulder to cry on, and quickly became one of the family (and will always be, for that matter). Once the kids grew up and went away to school and on their separate ways, Gloria still remained a part of our family and our lives, frequently calling to check in on us for "lengthy" phone conversations with my wife, Jackie (man, how those two could talk!!). And whenever our kids were home from school, no home visit was ever complete without a visit with Gloria. I am sure she knows, wherever she may be, that she will always be in our hearts. Rest in peace, our dear friend. We will always love you. Our world was a better place to have had you in it.

We are saddened to hear that Gloria has transitioned. We lived on Nile Road with Gloria, Lee and their children, and remember many happy times when our children were growing up. Our hearts are heavy, but we know that she is sharing a long awaited time with Lee, III. All of us that lost children that lived on Nile Road have a special bond. Stay strong Lee and Gabrielle. Prayers are going up for you.
