Glenn Tracy Kendrick, Sr. was born in Chattanooga Tennessee to James (Prop) Kendrick and Bettye G. Kendrick. He was educated in the Chattanooga Public Schools system. Glenn graduated from Riverside High School. He was a proud member of the High Stepping Riverside marching band and the jazz band. Glenn’s primary instrument was the trumpet, but he played other instruments as well. In high school, Glenn also played baseball. After graduation, Glenn attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he played basketball on the freshman team.
Prior to graduating from college, Glenn entered the workforce at DuPont. After a number of years, he relocated to Houston, Texas where he lived for several years. He worked for Houston Power Company. Glenn returned to Chattanooga to help care for his ailing father. He established Kendrick Cleaning Services, specializing in restaurant cleaning. Glenn’s company has operated for 35 years.
Glenn engaged in several hobbies throughout his lifetime which included traveling, playing tennis, singing, painting, and fishing. He also dressed very fashionably. Glenn was an enthusiastic fan of the Golden State Warriors. Glenn enjoyed being with his children. He also invited nephews and young cousins from in and out of state to visit during the summers.
Glenn was a lifelong member of Warren Chapel A.M.E. church in Chattanooga TN. As an adult, he sang in the choir and soloed at times.
Glenn’s parents, James, and Bettye Kendrick preceded him in death, as well as his two brothers, Michael Kendrick and John Eason.
He is survived by his children: Kamau (Shae) Sankofa (afa Kelcey Kendrick) of Lawrenceville, GA, Glenn “Tracy” Kendrick, Jr. of Chattanooga, Patrick Kendrick, Jimmi Kendrick of San Diego, CA, and a daughter. Glenn was also blessed with several grandchildren: Jordyn Arnold and Kamau Sankofa Jr. (KJ) of Lawrenceville, GA; Mariah Hunter and Isaiah Kendrick of Chattanooga; Star and Israel Kendrick of San Diego, CA, Jasmine, Jackson, and Jayla Burgess of Antioch, Tennessee; his sister, Willeata Kendrick, TN, aunt Dorneata Johnson, both of Chattanooga, TN, and special friend Tracy Love and her daughters, Ashley McHenry, Jazmine Love, and Paris Harmon. Many relatives and friends will greatly miss Glenn.
A 1:00 PM memorial celebration of life will be held Monday, December 19, 2022 at Warren Chapel AME Church, 503 North Market Street.
