Obituary for Georgia Bell Adams Banks

Georgia Bell Adams Banks was born on July 17, 1924 to George W. Adams and Mae Lissie Bowens in Chambers County, Alabama. She departed this life on December 21, 2022 peacefully at home.

Georgia moved to Chattanooga 65 years ago residing in the North Chattanooga Area. She did domestic work for many years and then worked at Erlanger Medical Center for 20 years until she retired. She received Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of River of Life Church, East Ridge, TN for more than 25 years under the leadership of Pastors Alan and Terri Crider. Her favorite pastimes were baking and working in her yard. If you truly knew her, you knew her flowers were her life. She had a magical touch and could tell you anything and everything about each of the beautiful flowers in her yard. She was known in the neighborhood as “The Flower Lady” for her beautiful spring and summer displays.

She was the last living member of her generation for both the Adams and the Banks families at 98 years young. She was preceded in death by her husband, Breamon Banks; father, George W. Adams; mother, Mae Lissie Bowens; three brothers, Ralph Phillips, Major Phillips, and Thomas Adams; son, Leon Banks, and two daughters, Eva Lee Banks Smith and Kala Mae Banks Qualls.

She leaves to cherish and celebrate her legacy, seven children, Queenie Bell Smiley (Birmingham, AL), John Lewis Banks, Carolyn Lawrence, Annie (Clyde) Smith, Hazel (Leroy) McDermott, Linda Banks, and Virginia Daniel all of Chattanooga, TN.; 17 Grandchildren; 45 Great Grandchildren; 52 Great-Great Grandchildren; Aunt, Betty Bowens (Knoxville, TN). She also has a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends. This includes her devoted nephew, Walter Banks, and faithful friends, Karene Brooks and Carrie Harris.

Public viewing will be held 2:00 PM-6:00 PM, Friday, January 6, 2023 at the funeral home. A 1:00 PM funeral service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023 in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 423-622-9995.
