Obituary for Genevieve L. Jennings

Genevieve Lonnie Spann Jennings passed into eternity June 3, 2021 at a local hospital in Chattanooga, TN. She was born December 15, 1932 to James Swan and Lucille Spann, Sr. in Chattanooga, TN., and was the 7th of ten children.

Mrs. Jennings was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Knoxville College and University of Tennessee @ Knoxville TN. She was employed by the Chattanooga Public Schools where she taught elementary schools at several different locations for 33 years. She was a member of the NEA and TEA teacher associations and a member of St. Peters & Paul Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tracey Lee Jennings, parents James & Lucille Spann, Sr. Siblings, James Swan Spann, Jr., Wilhelmena Spann Young, Lorraine Spann Wylie, Cornelia Spann Bridges and Adelia Spann Owens.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of sixty four years, David Lee Jennings and goddaughter, D’Wauna Mann.

Surviving siblings are Gwendolyn Elliott, Chicago, IL., Geraldine Blanche (Eugene) Cox, of LaGrange, IL., William (Virginia) Spann Chattanooga, TN., and Marian Jack (Lois) Spann of Colorado Springs, CO. There are also a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other family members and friends.

The family is requesting that no flowers be sent. Instead, donations be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105. Phone (901) 595-3300.

Public viewing will be held Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga Tennessee, 37404, (423) 622-9995. A graveside service will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
