Obituary for Ernest Swoopes Sr.

Ernest A. Swoopes, Sr. 68, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020, in Chattanooga. He was a graduate of Howard High School, class of 1971. He was retired from McCallie School and worked at Unum for several years. Mr. Swoopes was a member of Stephen Temple Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Ernest loved to play the drums. He was a carpenter and painter. He loved to draw, dance, and sing. He was family-oriented with Mildred Lollis being his “road dog”. He was a man of great faith and loved his church. Ernest loved cooking and was quite the dresser.

He was preceded in death by his parents John B. and Minnie Swoopes; brother, Wilton Swoopes.

He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Jenifer Swoopes; daughter, Chemaram Swoopes; son, Ernest Swoopes, Jr; granddaughters, Chamia and Tamaya Parks; sisters, Sheila Swoopes, of New Jersey; Mildred Lollis, Nancy Swoopes Terror, Loleta (Will) Elder; nieces, Shanel Lollis, LaShonda Tutt, Marietta, GA; nephew Kevin Lollis, Dalton, GA; Nieces and nephews, LaQuane Lollis, LaPrisha Holloway, LaNisha Holloway, Ódarrius Lollis, Kirra Lollis, Andrea Abernathy, Brittany Kirby, Stontionna Fulghum, and Christopher Higgen; a host of cousins, friends, and other relatives; special friends, Deacon Michael Prater, and A.L. Nance, of Memphis, TN.

Public viewing will be, 9:00 AM-12noon, Saturday, January 2, 2021, at the funeral home. A private family funeral will be held. Interment: Highland Memorial Gardens.
