Ellen (Slim) Monfort Taylor, an amazing woman, mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend. Was born January 1 st 1968 to Essie Lee Mapp Brown and Willie F. Monfort in Greensboro, Georgia. Ellen entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 4 th 2020 at 7:07 PM. Ellen was proceeded in death by her father, Willie; mother, Essie; father-in-law Roger E. Taylor; Great grandmother-in-law Edith L. Hereford.
Ellen was an easygoing, fun-loving woman who enjoyed spending time with her children. She was a joy to everyone who had the opportunity to meet her. Ellen would have given you the shirt off of her back if you needed it. Generosity was only one of her strong suites. She was not only dependable but genuine. The love she had for her children was undeniable.
Ellen graduated from Howard High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1986 where she dominated as the leading scorer in Basketball #10. She also excelled in Volleyball and Track and Field. Ellen was known widely for her athletic abilities. She was named All-City in 1984-85. Ellen Had taken her basketball talents to Gadsden State Community College located in Gadsden, Alabama where she played for 1 year before deciding to return home and start a family with her High School sweetheart Michael Eddie Taylor Sr. Ellen worked as a Home Health Aide providing assistance to those who were unable to care for themselves. She believed her purpose on this earth was to care for others.
Ellen met and married Michael E. Taylor, Sr. and from their union four wonderful children were born. They resided in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Ellen was a devoted mother and wife. She was an exceptional woman and human being. Ellen assisted in caring for her mother before she fell ill up until she passed. Ellen's father died when she was 4 months old. She was the youngest of 11 children. Ellen`s life consisted of her family and friends. She loved surrounding herself around those who brought her joy and peace.
Ellen was a sports genius. She enjoyed watching both football and basketball. Ellen loved all sports but her heart and soul rested in basketball. This enthusiasm was evident in all conversations and interactions. She was a die hard fan of Dallas Cowboys, Tennessee Vols, and THE76xers. She would also bet in a second that her team would win. Her faith never wavered. Ellen also was an exceptional cook and she often provided plates to those who were less fortunate. During the last years of her life, she decided to live it the best way she known how. Her goal was to enjoy it and live it to the fullest. She was not the type to be alone. Ellen was a social butterfly. The room would light up once she entered. Ellen enjoyed to listen and dance to her favorite artists, Keith Sweat, Avant, R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige and Alicia Keys. She also enjoyed styling in her track suits.
Ellen is survived by her four children, Michael E. Taylor, Jr; Dominique L. Taylor; Ashley M. Taylor; LeKera D. Taylor; eight Grandchildren, beloved Mother-in-Law, Mary A. Taylor; four Siblings,Vivan Ann; Hazel Langston; Barbara J. Monfort; Cynthia Monfort, Willie Monfort, Jr; three nieces, LaShunda Isbell, Justine Monfort, Brittany Monford; three nephews, Jefferey Choice, Antwon Monfort; Denzel Monfort; Close friends, Marilyn Gearing; David Elliot and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.
Public viewing will be held from 9:00 am - 12 noon Sunday, September 20, 2020 and a private family service will be held. Arrangements by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 423-622-9995.
