Obituary for Elder Curtis Douglas

Elder Curtis Howard Douglas was born on January 18, 1932, to the late Joseph and Rosa Douglas. Elder Douglas was a member of the Howard High Class of 1950 and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the International Theological Seminary in Orlando Florida. In 1949 Elder Douglas met the love of his life, Miss. Pansy Evelyn Caldwell. To this union two children were born, Terry L. Douglas, and Yolanda Douglas Taylor. This young and thriving couple remained married for 66 years until the Lord called Mother Pansy Douglas home to receive her reward in August 2015. For over 30 years Elder C.H. Douglas provided for his family as an employee of Wheland Foundry for 30 years. In the late 1950s Elder Douglas accepted his calling to the ministry and united with the Church Of God In Christ. In the early 1960s Elder Douglas was privileged to serve the East Tennessee state Bishop, the late Bishop J.O. Patterson. He assisted Bishop Patterson with a church in Knoxville Tennessee, traveling with his family every weekend for three years to assist in the growth of that ministry. In 1964 Elder Douglas established the Jackson Temple Church of God in Christ and served that church for 30 years. During his tenure at Jackson Temple, many souls were saved, and miracles were wrought. At the demise of the district superintendent, Pastor Henderson McDowell in 1990, the jurisdictional bishop of the Tennessee Central Jurisdiction, the late Bishop W.L. Porter appointed Elder Douglas, as the senior pastor of the newly merged McDowell Memorial Church Of God In Christ. For 21 years Pastor Douglas labored in the vineyard as more souls were added to the kingdom and testimonies of deliverance and healing were manifested. In the year 2001, Pastor Douglas completed the building of a brand-new worship center and the renovation of the existing building. Throughout the state of Tennessee and under the leadership of other great bishops, including the late Bishop Audley King and the late Bishop H. Jenkins Bell, Pastor Douglas, served in a plethora of roles as president of the youth congress, finance chairman, district superintendent and administrative assistant to the bishop. Pastor C.H. Douglas now joins the Great Cloud of Witnesses along with his parents, Joseph and Rosa Douglas, brothers, Fred Douglas and Marvin Douglas, one sister, Elizabeth Jones, his wife, Mother Pansy E. Douglas, and son, Elder Terry L. Douglas. Those left to cherish his legacy and memory are his devoted daughter, Missionary Yolanda R. Taylor, two grandchildren, Min. Trammel Hymes and Saneesha Douglas; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and every person he touched. There are two words of wisdom from Pastor Douglas that we will forever reflect, and cherish upon:
“God is good all the time, and all the time God is good!”
“You haven’t learned how to live until you learn how to give because the art of living is giving!”
