Obituary for Dorothy Kimble Jones

Dorothy Irene Kimble Jones, 98 of Chattanooga, TN transitioned to eternal rest on December 31, 2022, in Gainesville, GA after a short illness. She was born on November 29, 1924. She was the daughter of the late John and Viola Kimble, the granddaughter of the late Lena Dobbins, and the sister of the late John Horace Kimble.

She is survived by her three loving children: Brenda J. Matthews, Charles (Dorothea) Jones, and Anthony Jones; her five loving grandchildren: Kimberly Cofield, Erika (Ryan) McJimpsey, India (Andrew)Taylor, Ebony Jones, and Shomari (Anetra) Jones; eight loving great-grandchildren: Kanisha Lewis, De'Marco Moses, Destiny Cofield, Judah McJimpsey, Cyrus McJimpsey, Tommy Watkins, Ty Jones, Dallas Taylor, and one great-great grandson who was the apple of her eye, Stefon Moses; loving nieces Fay (Wallace) Caver and Keira Caver, and a host of cousins and friends.

She became a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church in 1955 under the pastorate of the late Martin H. Ribbins and was one of the church’s oldest living members. She loved her church, and it loved her in return. She was employed by S.H Kress & Company (during Jim Crow), Erlanger Hospital (retired), as well as the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (retired), and Hamilton County School District (Ridgedale Elementary and Dalewood Middle School).

Dorothy was small in stature but possessed a strong spirit and a big presence. Some of her mottos were: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and “if you do it right the first time, you won’t have to do it again”.

She was known for her love for cooking, shopping, and traveling. She made food that was appealing to the eye and taste. She was a stylish and classy lady who had an affinity for beautiful hats.

Her love, laughter, and presence will be greatly missed, but she will forever be in the hearts of those who loved her.

A 12:00 PM funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Second MB Church 2305 East Third Street.
Interment: Lakewood Memory Gardens EAST.
