Obituary for Dorothy Hicks Wills

Dorothy Rosetta Hicks Brooks Wills., “Dot” 66, was born October 14, 1954 in Chattanooga, TN. She was the fifth and last baby born from the union of Jerry F. Hicks, Jr and Mildred T. Hicks. Dot was an excellent seamstress and worked in and around that trade throughout her lifespan at various companies: Rossville Yarns, Standard Coosa-Thatcher, Will-Wear Hosiery Mill, Genco and was recently retired from Synergy Services. On June 5, Dot was transported home after a week-long hospital stay where she transitioned shortly thereafter in the arms of her two children.

Dot accepted Christ at an early age and joined Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated from Howard High School in 1972. Although she had a no – nonsense type of personality, she was loved by all that knew her. She had absolutely no problem “staying in her lane”. She was who she was and if you didn’t like it, oh well……

Dot was predeceased by her father; Jerry F. Hicks, Jr., brothers; Michael Hicks, Sr. and Jonathan Hicks, sister; Belinda Williams, two grandmothers; Geneva Mullins and Lavonia Suttles, grandfathers; Jerry Hicks Sr., and Fred Turner.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Mildred Hicks; son, Wendell Brooks; daughter, Gwendolyn Hicks; brother, Randall Hicks; 3 grandsons, Jerry Daniel, Marcellus Hatten, and Xavier Brooks; 2 great grandchildren, Kylan “Brody” Daniel and Aubrey Johnson all of Chattanooga; sisters-in-law, Cassandra Hicks and Brenda Hicks; life-long companion, Victor Allen,; nieces and nephews, Darrel Williams Jr., Michael Hicks, Jr, Lavonia Wills Hicks, Tasha Williams, Serita Watkins, Danny Hicks, Markeisha Hicks, Zachariah Hicks; aunts, Thelma Holloway and Joyce Carter; uncle, Frizzell Turner; life-long friends and partners in crime, Willie Mae Allen and Angela Martín, a host of cousins, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and close friends.

Visitation will be 2:00pm - 6:00pm, Friday, June 11, 2021. A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 1:00pm in the chapel with Minister Willie Hammonds, officiating.

Interment: Beautiful Greenwood.
