Obituary for Donald King

Donald King, 71, born December 25,1949 in Chattanooga, TN to Calvin and Josie Lee King was the youngest of 5 children and affectionately known as “The Baby.” He attended Booker T. Washington High School, where he earned his general education diploma.

Donald was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 175 and retired in 2005 from the City of Chattanooga. Donald King served in the U.S. Army for 2 years and the Army reserves for 12 years. Donald was ordained as a Deacon under the leadership of Pastor Floyd Croft June 27, 2021 at Pilgrim Rock Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member for over 50 years.

Donald, known to many as “Duck,” was a fun-loving man who never met a stranger. He is preceded in death by his father Calvin “Brown” King. Donald is survived by his mother, Josie Lee King, loving wife, Janice King, siblings, Edna (Harold) Reid, Herman King, Zora Keith, Ingrid (Elder Joe) Jackson, aunt, Mildred Jackson, children, Brian (Shuronda) King, Reginald (Elder Chantele) Massengill, Mason (Stella) Smith and Tonya (Darryl) Paris, 13 grandchildren, 3 nieces, 6 nephews, and many other family members and devoted friends.

Duck was interested in many things but was an avid music lover. He was always playing music of all genres and was using instructional videos to learn to play the piano and Guitar. Donald was loved by so many and will be truly missed.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday October 13, 2021 from 3-5pm and a celebration of life from 5-6pm at Pilgrim Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 1726 Church Road Chattanooga, TN 37421 with committal of body Thursday October 14, 2021 at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 11am.
