Debra Jo Harris, 73, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, March 18th, 2022, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Debra was born on August 15th, 1948, to Fredrick and Susie Austin in Chattanooga. Debra graduated from Howard High School in 1966. After graduating from high school, Debra attended college for a brief period before beginning her career as a Pharmacy Technician for 20 years. Later, she went on to pursue other professions.

In 1968, Debra got married and in the following years had 3 children: Tracy, Derek, and Leah. Debra was a dedicated and loving mother and role model to all her children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren alike. Debra always showed selflessness and was attentive to anyone who needed her, no matter the circumstance. Family always came first; and wisdom, love, faith, and empathy were some of the many values she instilled in all those around her. The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill.

Debra was preceded in death by Susie Austin (mother), Fredrick Austin (father), Tracy (daughter), Stephanie (niece), and LeBron (nephew).

She is survived by her son, Derek Harris; daughter, Leah Walker; sisters, Carolyn (Benny) Stready, and Melba (Roosevelt) Kelly; brother, Fredrick (GiGi) Austin; grandchildren, Kristen, Lauryen, Isaiah, Israel, Zaire, and Shanovia. She is also survived by her very special friend Thomas Butler; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones. We will always cherish the time and memories shared with Debra as she remains in our hearts. We will continue with life, staying faithful to God, and doing our best to be a blessing in our loved ones’ lives just as much as she was in ours.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, April 2, 2022, in the chapel of the funeral home.
