Obituary for Darian Donyel Hixson

Darian Donyel Hixson was born on a drizzling Thursday, May 7, 1998, to Shawan and Darius Hixson, Sr., in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 2009, at age 11, Darian confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior. She served as a member at St. Matthew's Baptist Church. Darian graduated from Central High School, class of 2016. She quickly declared basketball as her first love and played tenaciously and with great passion. Around the South-eastern region, Darian’s name was quickly associated with her love for basketball.
In 2016, Cleveland State Community College signed the rising star, and she continued her post-secondary educational career and honed her basketball skills with the Cougars. The TCCAA Cougars went on to finish second in both regular season and tournament her first year. Darian was known by her presence from the moment she stepped foot on the college campus. High school and college coaches agreed that she was a pillar both on and off the floor. Her Cougar teammates would attest, “No matter what was happening on the scoreboard, Darian made us feel like every day was a win because we were in it together.”
After completing the two years at Cleveland State, Darian refocused her hopes on attending Huntingdon College, in Montgomery, Alabama. Shortly after matriculation there, she relocated back to Chattanooga Tennessee. She worked closely in the community to uplift youth who aspired to play at the next level. She also mentored female athletes from her alma mater, Girls, Inc., and other community foundations. Glancing into her future endeavors, Darian switched her career focus to hospitality and tourism. She worked vigorously in the Greater Chattanooga downtown sector. While hosting she was most known for her vibrant personality and ability to multitask services between her clients.
Even as a child, family members would compliment Darian's selfless spirit and tenacity towards leadership. She was an advocate for others, especially for those who were “voiceless”. She often adopted the unknown and made it her home. She was unafraid to bear the burden of others. Darian lived like she played basketball, meeting each moment with uncommon determination and hope. She wore many occupational hats as an entrepreneur here in Chattanooga, Atlanta, Nashville, Birmingham, and Montgomery. Her attributes could be most recognized as a brand ambassador of a series of small business start-ups, marketing specialist, social media influencer, and in hospitality and tourism. Darian recently began a career in modeling.
Darian was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Bobbie Jean Hixson and Belinda Jackson Peacock; her grandfather, Willie A. Hixson.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, loving parents, Shawan and Darius Hixson, Sr.; her beloved sister, Darisha Hixson; her two devoted brothers, Decorious Hixson and Darius Hixson, Jr.; her precious niece, Jo'Hari Nichols; grandfather, Charles Peacock; her doting god-father, Steven Davis; adoring aunts, Tiffany (Dennis) Blackman, Charhonda (Julian) Gardner, Lakesha Peacock, Dominique Peacock, and Priscilla (Gartrell) Walton; a host of cousins and friends; special noted friends, Markize Gillespie & Armiya Thomas
