Obituary for Clay Eula Mae

Eula Mae Clay, born February 7, 1931, departed this earth to be eternally in the presence of her Lord and Savior on December 19, 2020, at her home with loved ones by her side in Chattanooga, TN.

Eula was a graduate of Howard High School. Prior to retiring from Private Industry Council of Hamilton County Government as Management Information System Supervisor, she was Payroll Supervisor for the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act for the City of Chattanooga. She was a faithful Mother of New Home Missionary Baptist Church where she was loved and honored by her Pastor.

As the beloved matriarch of the Clay Family, her greatest joy was being the mother of seven, the grandmother of thirty, and great grandmother to over fifty. Her faith, wisdom, bluntness, mentoring, and unconditional love for others, was the reason her home was always opened and filled with people from all walks of life, even her boss became a son.

A single mother of seven, Eula taught her children to be the best of who God created them to be. She taught them to love people, “where they are”, even if you didn’t like them. She was a crystal-clear example of, “practice what you preach”. Eula didn’t mince words, she told you what she thought, with words that could pierce your heart but also heal your soul. She never turned away anyone who was in need. She fed, clothed, boarded, and chastised many in her home with a selfless heart that gave, even when it was her last. She was passionate about helping people live a fulfilled life.

She was preceded in death by her parents Hezekiah Boyd and Ora Mae Clay, and beloved daughter, Carla Dorice Clay.

Those left to cherish Eula’s memories are her three sons, Terrence Clay Sr., Lyndon (Ivy) Clay and Darryl Clay Sr.; three daughters, Rhonda (Raymond) Delaney, Gwyndon Bush, and Audrey (Ronald) Jones, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and very close friends.

A special, “Thank you”, to Hospice of Chattanooga and Cynthia Ward for the greatest care given to our precious one!

A public viewing will be held 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 30, 2020. Interment: Forest Hills Cemetery.
