Cecil Scoffield, 72, was born on April 10, 1950, to Eddie Scoffield and Dorothy Gillespie Hawkins, in Commerce, GA. He departed life on this side of heaven on June 12, 2022, while doing one of the things he loved best-playing a simple game of solitaire.
At an early age Cecil moved to Chattanooga. He was known by many as a quiet, gentle giant.
Cecil was a 1970 graduate of Howard High School, home of the “Hustlin’ Tigers.” He was employed at Shultz Tannery and the Chattanooga Housing Authority.
If he wasn’t working the daily New York Times crossword puzzle (without a dictionary) he would engage anyone who was brave enough to go head-to-head with him regarding his beloved team, the Tennessee Titans.
Cecil had no children but was a father figure to many. One would have no doubt realizing his love for his nieces and nephews, as it was evident in the love and care shown in his interaction with them. Each one was special to him in their own way.
Cecil is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy Scoffield, Eddie Scoffield, Jr.; niece MaCaylah D. Speight.
