Obituary

Carolyn Ann Lattimore Lewis “The Queen” was born on May 3, 1939 in Greenback, TN to Raymond Nelse and Sallie McGhee Lattimore. She went to meet her Saviour on August 29, 2020. She was in the 1957 class of Howard High School and was the first African American female machine operator in Chattanooga at Wheland Foundary, Rockwell Foundary and Southern Centrifugal. After her retirement, she became a caregiver.

She was a faithful member of the Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church until her decline in health.

She coordinated the 1st Buffalo Soldiers’ Convention in Chattanooga in 2008 which has become an annual event.

Past Grand Daughter Ruler Lewis was a lifetime member of Armistice Temple #364 for 54 years and the Lookout Marching Unit #440 and the Tennessee Brigade. She was an active participant of the Alexian Brothers (P.A.C.E.) Program.

Survivors: loving and dedicated daughters, Denise “Cookie” Lattimore, Katherine “Kathy” Russell, Stephanie “Pee-wee” Fletcher, Lisa “Butchie” Lake, and Karen “Karo” Fletcher, sons, Jeff Lewis, Donald Smith, brothers, Raymond Lattimore and Frank (Willie Ella) Swopes, uncle, Allen (Daisy) McGhee, brother-in-law, Joe Lewis, many relatives and friends.

Visitation: Saturday, September 5, 2020 - 2:00 pm-5:00 pm Elk’s Ritualistic Ceremony 5:00 pm (open ceremony) Funeral: Sunday, September 6, 2020-2:00 pm (private) Both Services will be held at John P. The family of the late Deacon Eugene & the late Mrs. Alma Jean Carter are extremely saddened by the passing of Sis. Lewis. We are praying for the family and friends of this beautiful woman who made such a wonderful impact to our family and the community as a whole.
