Carolyn Louise Hawkins was born on Thursday, April 21, 1949, to Thomas Nathan Hawkins and Lenora Butts Hawkins. She transcended into celestial peace on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at CHI Memorial Hospital, surrounded by loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James Wimbley, Jr. and Lawrence Wimbley. Carolyn was a devoted member of Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Pathfinders Sunday School class, Nurses’ ministry, and Singles ministry, until declining health prevented her attendance. She was educated in the former Chattanooga school system and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1967. Carolyn attended Morris Brown College and Tennessee State University. She graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a BSN in Psychology. She also graduated from the Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing and later earned her BSN from Southern University. She worked at Parkridge Hospital and Diagnostic Health Center before working at Erlanger Medical Center for 31 years until her retirement. Carolyn enjoyed reading and walking as well as spending time with her friends. She was a loving and generous person as well as a very compassionate nurse that always went above and beyond to meet the needs of her patients. Her sweet smile and caring ways made her loved by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing her. Carolyn leaves many special people to cherish loving memories, including cousin, Aaron Butts; friends, Kwan Smith, Cameron Smith, Elnora Cunningham, Sarah Hale-Hill, and Janice Hayes; as well as other relatives and dedicated friends.
A graveside celebration of life service will be begin at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Lakewood Memory Gardens East.
