Obituary for Carolyn Diann Finnell

Carolyn D. (Cash) Finnell was born on October 31, 1944, in Springfield, Ohio to Elizabeth I. Knox and Freeman Cash. She attended Zion College, majoring in Elementary Education. She was a Supervisor at Gordon Dry Cleaners, retiring after 30 years of service. Carolyn was a faithful member of Pierce Avenue Baptist Church since 1983, serving on the Usher Board. Carolyn also served with the Greater United Way in Chattanooga.

She was the eldest of ten children, and the stepdaughter of Rev. Robert Knox, Sr. of Chickamauga, Ga. Carolyn loved football, basketball, music, dancing and reading. She was born with a green thumb and could bring any plant back to life. One thing she loved most of all was dressing up. She was full of style, class, dignity, and integrity. She loved her family and friends. Her home was always open to those in need, and she always helped and was willing to help others, especially family. Carolyn’s sense of humor was unmatched and will be irreplaceable. She was loved by all whom she encountered.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth I. Knox; father, Freeman Cash; two sisters, Sheila McFarland, and Anneda L. Woodall.

Carolyn is survived by her two children, Marie Turner (Todd Turner) of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., Shirley Britt (Nickolas Smith) of Dalton, Ga; 5 grandsons Dustin Young (Tiffany Young) of New Orleans, Jonathan Britt of Chattanooga, Khallid Sanford (Miranda Sanford), Jabril (Malik) Sanford of Chattanooga, and Todd Turner Jr. (TJ) of Fort Oglethorpe, GA; 5 sisters, Rhonda Horton, Jacqueline McGintis, Roberta Derry, Carmen Kasler, and Kimberly Davis; 2 brothers: Robert Knox Jr., and Donald Knox; grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was and always will be a Special Lady.

A 3:00 pm Memorial celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 423-622-9995.
