Brittie Jackson Ervin, 97, passed away February 25, 2021. She was born in Chattanooga, TN to the late Fred Jackson and Ida Carty Baine on March 16, 1923. She was an honor student at Howard High School class of 1941 and attended Zion College. She was a Teacher Assistant for over 30 years with the Chattanooga Hamilton County School System, election worker and PTA for many years. She was an active church member at Mt. Paran Missionary Baptist Church. Brittie was an accomplished Artist and painted beautiful portraits and floral arrangements. She was known for being frugal and taught all of her children the value of being thrifty. She enjoyed teaching and all of her children were honor students. She had an enormous sense of humor which impacted everyone that she met.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, George Ervin, Sr.; parents, Fred Jackson and Ida Carty Baine; siblings, Hilda Jackson, Ed Lee Jackson, Annie Lucille Thompson, Doris, O’Neal, Glyndon Crump, and Robert Baine; stepfather, Joseph Baine; grandchildren, Joel Ervin, Nkenge Hood, and Jimmie Hood.
Survivors include her sons, Rev. Richard (Doris) Ervin, George Ervin, Jr.; daughters, Jo Anne Favors, Eleanor Warren, Chattanooga, TN, Linda Ervin, of St. Louis, MO, Juanita Ervin, Newark, CA; sisters, Mary (Raymond) Reynolds, Marjorie McBee; sister-in-law, Idalene Baine, Chattanooga, TN; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Public viewing will be from 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM Monday, March 8, 2021 in the funeral home chapel, followed by a 1:00 PM funeral service. Interment: Forest Hills Cemetery
