Obituary for Bobbie Houston

Bobbie Jean Stewart Houston was born, September 10, 1933 to Charlena Stewart and George Sims.

She confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of the Second Baptist Church on the Old West Side. She later joined and became a longtime member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne Johnson. Her final Church home was Stoney Point Baptist Church with Pastor Edward L. Thrasher, where she was a faithful member until her health failed.

Bobbie achieved her high school diploma in 1968 (Howard High School), while raising her kids and working at the Nu-Mini-Car Wash, working 10 & 12 hours. She worked for the United States Postal Service and retired after twenty-four years of service. Her hobbies were Ceramics and Bowling, (where she achieved a 200 average, several trophies and awards). Bobbie was loved by everyone she met. Everyone called her “MOTHER” because that is exactly how she made them feel.

Bobbie was proceeded in death by her Husband, Mose Houston, Sr.; Mother, Charlena Miles; Father, George Sims; Sisters, Amy Ward and Marjorie Johnson; Son, Mose Houston Jr; Daughters, Charlotte Ann Jones and Beatrice Parker; Grandsons, Dejuane Moore and Great-Grandson, Dervin Houston and Kelon Houston.

Bobbie leaves to cherish her memory; 5 Daughters, Gloria Jean Horton, Retha (Otis) Jackson, Melinda (Bonnie) Goodwin, Charlena (Chocolate) Williams, Sherry (Marvin) Anderson; 1 son, George Robert Houston; 4 Sisters, Selica Williams, Tandra Jones, Hiawatha Miles, EOTrees Miles; 1 Brother, Ricky (Kitty) Miles; 26 Grandchildren; 60 Great-Grandchildren; 16 Great-great Grandchildren; many close nieces and nephews, and a host of other close/special friends and relatives.

Public viewing will be held from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm Saturday, December 26, 2020 at the funeral home, followed by a 1:30 graveside service. Interment: Chattanooga National.
