Obituary for Bertha Mae Stoudemire

Bertha Mae Stoudemire, 97, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully in her home on March 15, 2022. Bertha was born in Prattville, Alabama to the late Fletcher and Diana Rutledge Stoudemire. Upon moving to Chattanooga, she was a faithful member of New Mt Carmel Missionary Baptist Church.

Ms. Bert, as she was affectionately called, was the last surviving sibling of nine children. Her legacy and favorite saying was, “It’s Good To Be Here”. She has passed that saying on, not only to her children and grandchildren, but to everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Fletcher Stoudemire Jr., Samuel Stoudemire, McKinley “Mac” Stoudemire, Ernest Stoudemire, and Benjamin Stoudemire; sisters, Verla Lawson, Katie Moore, and Ruby Isaac. She was also preceded in death by sons, Jerry Allen, Percy “Jap” Allen; daughters, Shirley West Fairbanks, Loretta Stoudemire Nash, Sandra Kyles Powell and daughter-in-law, Patricia Stoudemire.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Percy Stoudemire, Charles Stoudemire, Calvin Stoudemire, and Barbara Allen; daughter-in-law, Lizzie Allen and Irene Allen; cousins, Nita Burt, Joan Baylor, and Geraldine Howard, as well as a multitude of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A public viewing will be held from 9:00am-11:00am Saturday, March 26, 2022, at John P Franklin Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. Interment: Highland Cemetery.
