Obituary for Alice Lee

Mrs. Alice Matthews Lee, 104 years of age, transitioned peacefully on December 11, 2020 with her daughter by her side in Chattanooga, TN.

Alice was born on April 27, 1916 in Coatopa, Alabama. She attended Mount Tabor School.

Young Alice loved the Lord. She accepted Jesus the Christ as her Savior and was baptized uniting with Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church.

In 1935, Alice married Cliff Lee Jr. They united with Zion Hill AME Zion Church, where Alice served as a devoted and faithful member.

Alice taught her children and her grandchildren by word as well as by example to "Work for what you want". Alice worked tirelessly providing, nurturing and taking care of her husband, children and grandchildren. She always sacrificed her needs for the good of her family. She will be remembered as a devoted, selfless, strong Christian wife, mother and grandmother who loved the Lord and her family.

Alice was an avid gardener, farmer, cook and seamstress. Whatever she planted from flowers to crops, always produced a harvest. Her family looked forward to her delicious home cooked meals three times a day, including desserts, mouth watering biscuits, freshly churned butter & butter milk, and her famous chow-chow, preserves and jams.

Alice also served her community. She was a Charter member, Founder and Chaplain for the Eastern Star, Zion Hill Beauty, Chapter 753 for over 70 years.

Alice leaves to cherish her memory, Children: Mary Alice David, Cleveland OH; Mattie Dave, Chattanooga, TN; Ted Lee, Chattanooga, TN; John Lee, Cleveland, OH; Virginia Buckner, Coatopa, AL; Siblings: Jonathan Matthews, Chattanooga; James Matthews and Isaiah Matthews, Cleveland, OH; A Host of Grand children, Great grand children, Great great grand children, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her Husband of 61 years, Cliff Lee Jr.; Children: Clifton, Baby boy, Emma Cornelius, Bob, Viola, Alfrieda; Siblings: Lewis Jr, Mamie, Lucille, Jonnie, Elnora, & Jeff.

A private family service will be held in Livingston, Alabama.
